6 Tips What to Do After a Car Collision

You would not choose to be in a car collision! In fact, you diligently strive to be a safe and conscientious driver. However, statistically speaking, the average driver will be involved in 3-4 accidents in a lifetime!

Car accidents often lead to legal issues, whether with a driver or an insurance company. Let us share 6 tips that can positively impact your legal case if it happens:

1 – Never admit any form of guilt or liability
It is human nature to feel regret, to think you must have done something wrong, or to want to tell the other party that you’re sorry. However, these kinds of statements can be used against you in court and by insurance companies. It is best to say nothing. This will allow a lawyer to do their job without having to work through what the other party may claim is a statement of guilt.

2 – Collect the other driver’s information
This includes their license plate, insurance information, registration, driver’s license, and personal contact information.

3 – Take pictures
Take photos of both vehicles (especially any damages), the other driver, and the accident scene.

4 – Call the police
In a collision that has caused or may cause delayed injuries, it is wise to involve the police for your protection. If you’re injured, or if you suspect the other driver is operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if there are other complicating circumstances, call 911.

5 – Collect witness information
Witnesses to the accident are very helpful. Get their names, phone numbers, and addresses, and take photos of them if possible.

6 -Be organized
Keep all documents related to your vehicle easily accessible in your glove compartment. This will allow you to easily share your insurance card, registration, and other information during a time of maximum stress.
